The estate of Jimi Hendrix has just announced their agreement with Legendary Pictures for an official biopic of the late rock and roll legend. For Jimi Hendrix fans everyone, this is exciting news. The film will be directed by Paul Greengrass (who also directed United 93 and Captain Phillips) and will feature actual recordings from Hendrix.
After the 2013 release of the unofficial biopic starring André Benjamin (better known as André 3000 from OutKast) was met with mixed reviews, Hendrix fans everywhere are still left waiting in anticipation for a great film to do their hero justice. With the announcement of the new biopic film, expectations are high, but will they actually be met?
Jimi Hendrix is considered by many to be something of an enigma: his vintage upside-down fender guitar that he played left-handed, his drug use, and his relatively short career as a mainstream musician having been cut short due to his untimely death in 1970. For these reasons, to be able to effectively convey the artist’s personality can be difficult, as we’ve seen in films like Jimi: All Is By My Side. The question is, will Paul Greengrass’s film be received well by Hendrix fans everywhere, or will it flop and be a box office failure like its predecessor?
While we don’t have a lot of information yet on roles, scripts, or release dates, fans are on the edges of their seats waiting with anticipation for who will play legendary rock star.
